ITGA Suggestions for Promoting Campus & Community Day
#campusandcommunity - April 26, 2023
Across the globe, campuses and their host communities enhance the lives of many through their economic and civic partnerships. You are invited to join ITGA in spotlighting some of the amazing work going on within your community or organization as we prepare for the second annual Campus & Community Day on April 26, 2023.
Here are a few easy ways to participate:
- Personalize the ITGA press release for your community and send it out to your local media, including newspapers, talk shows, morning radio shows and network news.
- Coordinate on-air interviews for April 26, 2023, featuring leaders and newsmakers on your campuses and in your communities.
- Work with newspapers and other local media for promotion prior to April 26 and special coverage of any coordinated activities on #campusandcommunity Day.
- Engage campus and community partners in your area – even if they aren’t currently members of ITGA! – and plan an event that will take place on April 26, 2023. Examples might include:
- a community service project that brings together faculty, staff, students and community leaders;
- a press conference with the Mayor and University or College President standing in front of the entrance from town into campus highlighting the relationship between the organizations;
- Don’t have time to plan an official event on April 26? Don’t worry! Why not:
- create a TikTok video in advance with cameos from local community and campus “stars” showcasing where campus and community intersect and release it on April 26;
- promote work done throughout the 2022-2023 school year with special posts on April 26 using photos from previous events; or
- take a special photo of elected officials on campus or the school mascot in town — supporting local businesses, sitting in on a City Council meeting — for promotion on April 26.
TWITTER on Campus and Community Day
In Year One of Campus and Community Day, all promotion will be focused on Twitter.
- Tweet Away: Plan to make two to three posts on April 26 spotlighting efforts in your area and using the hashtag #campusandcommunity.
- Show a Little Love: Spend a few extra minutes on Twitter liking and retweeting other communities and colleges who are participating in Campus & Community Day.
- Friends and Rivals: Have a favorite ITGA friend – or campus rival? Find out what they are doing to celebrate #campusandcommunity on April 26! Then start a Twitter dialogue! Will the University of North Carolina and the University of Georgia agree on which university is the “first public university in the nation” on Campus and Community Day? Probably not – but they are always happy to cross-promote through their ongoing dialogue. Join in the fun with them!
- Picture This: Have your creative content ready to go! Plan ahead to capture the College President and Mayor shaking hands or working together to ensure that a dynamic photo showcasing authentic engagement is ready to go on April 26.
