The Department of Healthcare Studies’ Addictions and Behavioral Health Program (formerly Alcohol and Substance Abuse Studies) has been ranked the fourth best in the nation for training addiction counselors by bestcounselingdegrees.net.
The program is certified by both the New York State Office of Addictions Services and Supports (OASAS) and the national Association of Addiction Professionals (NAADAC) as an approved education provider and has been training addictions professionals since 1983. Its award-winning faculty are are trained, credentialed, experienced clinicians.
Substantial growth is predicted in the substance abuse counseling field, especially as our nation continue to grapple with the opioid epidemic that worsened during the COVID-19 pandemic. The US Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Occupational Outlook Handbook reports that the job outlook for 2019-2029 is a growth rate of 25%, which is much faster than average, with an estimated 79,000 new jobs during that time frame.
