ASU’s Great Plays grants have supported the Sun Devils for Life program, which provides services, training, and guidance to help intercollegiate student-athletes succeed academically and build essential life skills. The program includes NCAA‑mandated, in‑person training for all new Division I athletes focused on preventing relationship and interpersonal violence, as well as underage and high‑risk drinking. In early 2005, ASU staff combined the alcohol and violence‑prevention modules into a single session to be delivered during new student‑athlete orientation and team‑specific training. The foundation of this curriculum is the One Love Foundation platform, which equips young people with tools to recognize healthy and unhealthy relationships and promote prevention education in their communities. ASU staff added content highlighting the connection between alcohol and other drugs (AOD) and interpersonal violence, along with behavioral intervention strategies to reduce alcohol‑related aggression. Sun Devil Athletics peer health educators were trained on the updated material and practiced delivering the new content.
