Overview
In addition to attending weekly sessions, certificate program participants are required to use knowledge gained in the program to address a concern in their community. The project should integrate two or more module subjects, applying relevant course content and incorporating elements of both town and gown. You may address a new component of an existing issue, or a completely new initiative.
Your final project should address at least two of the following:
- Off Campus Housing
- Reducing High Risk Drinking
- Creating Vibrant and Inclusive Communities
- Economic Development
- Town and Gown Advisory Boards
- Campus (Re)development
- Community Engagement
Components for successful completion of the project:
- Abstract - overview of your project’s scope and intent (100 word limit) due April 14
- Summary and Strategic Plan - written (500 word limit) due May 5 with completed template
- Peer review of one classmates project due May 10 (discuss with peer outside of class time)
Timeline
April 14: Preliminary project abstract due (can be modified as the project progresses.)
May 5: Submission of the abstract, summary, and the strategic plan template.
May 8: Beth Bagwell distributes projects to peer reviewers.
May 10: Peer reviews completed and discussed 1-on-1 sessions.
May 26: Final project submitted and certificates awarded. Option to receive Certificate at the ITGA Conference.

Projects will be reviewed by ITGA staff and peer-reviewed by a Certificate One Cohort participant (preassigned by ITGA staff).
