Kent, Ohio - The International Town & Gown Association (ITGA) is pleased to announce the election of Greg McDanel, City Manager of Seaside, California, as its new President. The transition was formalized at the 2025 ITGA Annual Conference, held June 4–6 in Kent, Ohio. McDanel will serve a two-year term through 2027, following the Board’s decision to extend presidential terms to enhance continuity and long-term impact.
He succeeds Cooper Healey, ITGA’s first international member to serve as President—a milestone reflecting the organization’s expanding global reach. McDanel, a veteran city manager with more than two decades of public service, brings a strong record of leadership in town-gown collaboration.
“I am deeply honored to serve as ITGA President,” said McDanel. “This organization plays a critical role in strengthening the connections between campus and community. I look forward to working with our members and partners to elevate best practices, promote innovation, and foster inclusive community engagement.”
As Seaside’s new City Manager, McDanel is committed to strengthening local partnerships. “I’m especially eager to build meaningful relationships with California State University at Monterey Bay and Monterey Peninsula College,” he said. “These institutions are integral to Seaside’s future, and our collaboration will be key to long-term community success.”
Previously, McDanel served as City Manager of Maryville, Missouri, leading award-winning efforts in economic development and university-community engagement. He is an ICMA Credentialed Manager and long-time ITGA advocate.
As President, McDanel will lead implementation of ITGA’s upcoming three-year strategic plan. The plan focuses on expanding member value, professional development, and international engagement—guiding ITGA’s future growth and impact.
