The International Town-Gown Association (ITGA) Board will host a Level II Training program on the topic of diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility (DEIA) for ITGA members attending the 2023 ITGA City & University Relations Conference. ITGA Membership includes representatives from cities, municipalities, universities, and communities across the country and internationally. Recognizing that most of our institutions have embarked on DEIA training and initiatives, ITGA is uniquely positioned to provide examination of this topic applied through an outward facing lens. Due the importance of this content, Certificate Level I is not a prerequisite for Certificate Level II.
The program is scheduled for June 6th, 2023, 9am-3pm, prior to the ITGA City & University Relations Conference on June 7th-9th, 2023. This session will include a virtual “get to know you”’ session prior to arrival at the pre-conference session. Participants will be asked to create a strategic plan for how they can implement and help create change in their communities based on content and discussions shared in this cohort.
This year, the ITGA Board developed a Statement of Commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and Accessibility (DEIA) and Values. It reads as follows:
The International Town and Gown Association (ITGA) will be a diverse, equitable, inclusive, and accessible organization that provides models, effective strategies, and programs that build belonging and create access in town-and-gown shared spaces. Together, ITGA will:
- Foster resilience – Town and Gown partners recognize historic and current inequities and collaboratively leverage assets that reduce trauma and support town-and-gown recovery.
- Support accessible and safe environments – Town and Gown partners’ work centers safe access for all members of town-and-gown shared spaces with particular attention to populations that are most vulnerable.
- Demonstrate best practices to build and sustain diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility – Town and Gown partners recognize that for diverse communities to thrive, our members must be deeply aware of culture and identity for themselves and others and be prepared to engage with empathy and build trust with people from all walks of life.
Level II Training will be provided for up to 25 participants. Registration is open for Certificate Level II. To register, click here.
