An art professor’s journey through Italy has inspired a unique creative challenge at Ohio Northern University. In the Visual Literacy classroom, students are dreaming up their own 21st century “utopia,” using five historic Italian towns as a launchpad for their own visions.

As a member of the ITGA, you are part of a growing network of campus and community members from across the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom. ITGA is the only professional association that brings together town and gown leaders to address topics of mutual interest, share promising practices and address the most pressing issues facing campus communities today.

A. Introduction

The International Town and Gown Association (ITGA) is seeking dynamic professionals who want to take a more active role in ITGA by serving in a leadership position on the Board of Directors. Responsibilities include attending board meetings monthly, chairing (or co-chairing) a committee, and acting as an ambassador for the organization. The openings are for two-or three-year terms, beginning July 1, 2026. For your application to be considered, you much be an ITGA member. 

You may apply on your own or nominate a colleague. All applications will be considered, and we are particularly welcoming board applications/nominations from Elected Officials, Municipal Officials, Local Authority Staff, Police, International Members, and Students. 

The ITGA Board of Directors nomination process is designed to recruit and seek out dynamic and dedicated active voluntary professionals in service of the organization at a leadership level. The process below provides a framework for the nominating committee to conduct an unbiased and equitable assessment, consideration, and recommendation process for all potential nominees. Applications are due Monday, April 13th.

C. Nominating Committee

The nominating committee will be appointed by the current ITGA President and will consist of the President-Elect and two current members of the Board of Directors.

D. Skills & Experience

To ensure the ITGA Board of Directors continues to thrive and advance the organization’s mission, a diverse range of skills, experiences, and perspectives is essential. In consideration of the board’s current composition and evolving needs, prospective board members will be evaluated on the following criteria, including but not limited to:

  • A clear understanding of and commitment to ITGA’s mission, vision, and values 
  • Representation of diverse backgrounds and perspectives, including (but not limited to) age, gender, ethnicity, race, ability, geography, and ideology 
  • Current status as an Organizational, Individual, or Affiliate member of ITGA 
  • Demonstrated experience and/or ability to effectively represent a professional organization, including the capacity to: 
    • Respect differing viewpoints and contributions 
    • Come prepared and actively participate in board meetings 
    • Take initiative and follow through on board responsibilities 
    • Serve as a positive ambassador for ITGA 
    • Build connections and advance the organization’s reach and impact 

Nominees are expected to review and affirm their understanding of Article IV – Board of Directors in the ITGA bylaws, available on the ITGA website.
