America’s Urban Campus, the consortium of Chicago’s colleges and universities, pivoted from its core programming in March, 2020 to serve as a conduit, connector and coordinator for its members’ collective response to COVID-19. Board members representing all the institutions met bi-monthly via conference call to discuss initiatives, challenges and requests to the city-with a staff liaison designated by the Mayor’s office. 70% of students at West Chester University (WCU) commute to campus.  Located in a suburb of Philadelphia, WCU’s Off Campus and Commuter Services (OCCS) recognizes the opportunities and challenges that come from having many students live within the community.  OCCS collaborated with university and local officials while developing an online certificate course for all students.  This interactive session will cover the development of the course through the pilot implementation with 644 first year students.
