{popup text="Abstract" class="btn" popwidth="500px" popheight="300px"}*Track 6: Enhancing Quality of Life in Our Towns Through Sustainable Planning and Efforts-232B HUB-Robeson CenterTown and gown is a term that spans a range of places, from global cities (e.g. New York) to small towns (e.g. Clemson). We consider the effects of ‘place’ on town and gown relations, and how these are shaped by factors such as levels of population density, housing stock, demographics, climate, urban morphology, close connections to nearby places, number/types of universities, location/form of campuses, politics and resources. Using case studies from USA and UK, the presentation provides an understanding of geographies of towns and gown, and explore how this impacts on policy and practice.{/popup}Resources The geographies of town and gown and lessons for policies and practices: from Clemson to New York City: Presenters: Darren Smith, Professor of Geography at Loughborough, and Hunan University, China; Michael Fox, Professor of Geography & Environment, Mount Allison University, New Brunswick, Canada

The result was the launch of Rev-Up MKE, a shark-tank style competition which provides an opportunity for entrepreneurs to launch their business and receive support from anchor institutions. This model is replicable for other communities and has a high ROI and ROE. This session will provide a toolkit for replicating the program and running a pitch competition for the community.
