An art professor’s journey through Italy has inspired a unique creative challenge at Ohio Northern University. In the Visual Literacy classroom, students are dreaming up their own 21st century “utopia,” using five historic Italian towns as a launchpad for their own visions.

Context matters. Unintentionally suggesting a student may be lazier than a dog was admittedly a poor choice. LOL-ing IRL during a conduct hearing actually seemed appropriate at the time. Creating a job with a person in mind wound up spectacularly backfiring. I’ll never believe I’ve seen it all…but I’ve seen plenty and have learned a lot from the missteps I’ve taken over the last 20 years as a student affairs practitioner.

What began as a printed guide for living in State College has expanded to include a dinner with community leaders, a block party, and a 5K run/walk through our historic neighborhoods.
